Wheal Associates is committed to high-quality training. Chris trains journalists and company staff who need to be able to write clearly or for different media, such as websites. He also provides media training to company spokespeople who need to give interviews to the press.
Chris has been a board member of the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC) and currently serves on its Journalism and Accreditation Board. He served for many years on the editorial committee of the Periodical Training Council (PTC) and was a member of the working party that redefined magazine journalism NVQs.
NUJ’s ProfCom
When the National Union of Journalists set up a Professional Training Committee (ProfCom) in 2002, Chris was elected to the committee with the highest number of votes and became its founding chair. He was re-elected every year and chaired ProfCom until he stood down in 2016.
Chris has also lectured at City, Westminster and Goldsmith universities, as well as providing commercial journalism training in the UK and in Europe. For several years he taught online publishing at the London School of Journalism.
Chris has a website dedicated to teaching online journalism skills using the Lady Godiva legend as the basis for his lessons.
Media training
In addition to journalism training, Chris carries out media coaching and has helped coach several companies and organisations to better present their message to the media. Chris learnt the hard way by appearing regularly on radio and TV. Watch him many years ago on Sky Money.
